Durga puja is happening in Bengali Akhara since 129 years
Suryodayan Puja Celebration Committee Bengali Akhara, located in Langartoli, Patna, has been organizing Durga Puja for the last 129 years. This time the 130th year of Durga Puja is happening here. Ashok Kumar Ghoshal, head priest of the committee, says that the puja started in 1893 from the house of Sharad Kumar in Bihar Sav Lane. That place was called Tuntun Singh’s garden. At that time, only two to three feet idol was installed and worship was done on a small scale in a normal manner. Worship took place there for two years i.e. from 1893 to 1895.

Which has been happening since 1914 at the Durga Puja ground of Arya Samaj Temple near the Government Residential Colony of Timarpur. Due to restrictions, it was organized in the year 2020 and 2021 in the presence of some members of the committee.
There are preparations for its grand event this year. It is said that when the country’s capital was brought from Kolkata to Delhi, along with the British officials, government officials from Bengal also came here. In such a situation, when Durga Puja came in the year, most of the Bengali employees used to go back to their home state. This caused disruption in government work for 15 to 20 days.
To overcome this problem, the British called artists from Bengal and gave them space and resources to make idols and perform the entire puja here. Due to which gradually people started organizing Durga Puja here. Officials of Timarpur-Civil Lines Puja Committee said that the puja had started in 1910 itself. The society was officially registered in the year 1914. Even today, the puja is being organized at the same place where it had started.
The puja was started with a pitcher. Here earlier the puja was started with a pitcher. Whereas in the year 1961, the budget of the committee was four thousand rupees, now only a statue worth one and a half lakh comes here. The committee currently has more than one thousand members. Every year puja is organized on a particular theme. Artists are called from Kolkata on this occasion. 83-year-old Meera Chakraborty, associated with the committee, says that she came to Delhi from Kolkata in the year 1955.
