41 labourers trapped in the Silkyara Tunnel of Uttarkashi
41 labourers trapped in the Silkyara Tunnel of Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand for the last 17 days came out safely on Tuesday. While talking to the workers who were safely evacuated from the Silkyara Tunnel in Uttarakhand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that this was a period of great crisis and it was by the grace of Baba Kedarnath and Lord Badrinath that everyone came out safely.
Apart from Shaban Ahmed and Gabbar Singh Negi, who led the workers in the tunnel, the Prime Minister also talked to Akhilesh and Sonu. The workers shared with them their experiences spent inside the tunnel. He told how he kept himself healthy by taking morning walks and doing yoga in the area of two and a half kilometres inside the tunnel.
Praising Gabbar Singh, PM Modi said that someday some university will prepare a case study on him to find out what quality a village person has that he managed his entire team in times of crisis. During the conversation with PM Modi, when the workers raised slogans of Bharat Mata Ki Jai, PM Modi said that this is your enthusiasm. PM Modi said, ‘I congratulate all your colleagues that everyone passed out safely, with the blessings of Baba Kedarnath and Badrinath. If something went wrong, I don’t know how you would handle it? You guys kept our spirits up.

A labourer named Ahmed told PM Modi, ‘We remained stranded for 18 days. But we never felt nervous. The tunnel was two and a half kilometres long. We will thank everyone, The Uttarakhand government and Dhami Saheb hugged us. We used to walk. He only ate and did nothing else. PM Modi said, ‘General VK Singh stayed there and his soldier’s training came in handy. Here I heard that some of you also knew yoga.’

He said that 16-17 days is not less time. You guys showed a lot of courage. Encouraged each other. This is the biggest thing. You had a lot of courage. I was getting continuous information. He is also in constant touch with the Chief Minister. My PMO officer had come and sat there. The good fortune of the families of all the labourers came in handy. So that they can come out of the crisis.
During a conversation with the Prime Minister, Saba Ahmed said, “We were trapped in the tunnel for so long, but we did not feel weak or afraid even for a day.” Nothing like this happened to us inside the tunnel. There were 41 labourers there and everyone lived like brothers. No matter what happened to anyone, we stayed together. No one was allowed to face any trouble.
